Ethan D. Hill Honored with Youth Service Award at Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Citizen Honors Ceremony
Ethan D. Hill of Birmingham, Alabama, was celebrated with the Youth Service Award during the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's annual Citizen Honors Awards on National Medal of Honor Day, March 25, 2024, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Hosted by NBC News Correspondent Courtney Kube, the ceremony recognized individuals and organizations embodying the Medal of Honor values of courage, sacrifice, citizenship, integrity, commitment, and patriotism.
Ethan D. Hill, renowned for his philanthropic endeavors through Ethan's Heart Bags4Blessings and his commitment to the homeless community, was among the distinguished honorees for his exemplary service. The awards event followed a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring America's fallen heroes.
The day before the event, Ethan had the privilege of sharing an intimate and informative dinner with Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Paris D. Davis, Commander, Detachment A-321, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces. Captain Davis, originally scheduled to drape Ethan with the Citizen Honors Award medallion, faced unforeseen circumstances. Consequently, the honor was shared with Medal of Honor Recipient Sergeant Salvatore A. Giunta, the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor in the 21st century, who stood in during the ceremony to present the award to Ethan.
Medal of Honor Recipient and Society President Britt Slabinski emphasized the importance of recognizing such individuals, stating, "Medal of Honor recipients know that there are many Americans who share the values we seek to promote through our outreach, and we think it is important to hold them up as role models for others. Their self-sacrifice embodies the American spirit and shows that the opportunity to serve others does not require a military uniform.”
Ethan's recognition at this prestigious ceremony underscores his significant contributions to the community and his dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society's acknowledgment of Ethan's efforts serves as an inspiration, showcasing that the values of courage, sacrifice, and service extend beyond the battlefield and are exemplified in everyday acts of kindness and generosity.
